Recent polls keep suggesting that even though marriage is still present, more people decide not to get married or do it at later years when they are old. Many wedding businesses complain that sales aren’t the same as they used to be a couple of years ago. On this statement seem to be true since there have been numerous stories of bridal stores closing up in most parts of the world. Earlier in this year, we heard that one of the biggest wedding retailer Davids bridal was unable to pay its debts. This story was seen on Marketwatch.com claiming that the retailer almost filed for bankruptcy.

In Africa, Nairobi Kenya has a good number of wedding retailers and as seen that in the US, many wedding businesses are likely to shut down or experience slow growth, this leaves the question whether in Africa the trend is opposite. Although on my research, I noticed stiff competition among the retailers, Majority are still in Business. But one trend that caught my eye was the online rental company Happy Wishy. The company provides or according to their mission statement, aims to provide affordable bridal dresses to couples in Kenya. The same concept has been seen in the US by another company called borrowing magnolia. They both seem to be established in the same year and even according to the owler website, they seem to be competitors but this is not likely the case because of the geographical differences. Whichever region wins the battle will be known with time. These indicators suggest that the growth pace is slow.

So, do you think that the internet will save the industry or the whole wedding industry is dying or it is just a minor economic setback?
